...continuation from above
In several of my latest photographic projects, Scream Queens, Final Girl and Rosalie, I have been interested in film genres that have the same plot, a kind of standard history that always have a given beginning and end. The movies are from the mainstream genre such as comedy, action and horror movies and they have many clear roles that comes back again and again. Though the movie characters are living in a closed world (within the frame of the movie) their reality is well known for us in our own reality. I believe that we are remembering and creating our memory based on all images exposed to us, both from what we have experienced our self's and from what we have seen in fiction. Our image of the world then becomes an image of an image. The images we get from fiction are created from memories from reality and the reality is created from the idea of fiction. It can be hard to find the origin of reality if you reason this way since our perception seems to go in circles. The question is on which side of the frame that we are situated? During my stay in Japan I have come a cross a characteristic film role from the mainstream genre at the Japanese universities: cheerleading teams from college films. The cheerleading teams at the Japanese universities have adopted the American style but they have not found their inspiration from American universities but from something much closer; their TV.
